Got a question about The Junior Challenge and our summer camps? Check out our FAQs below for more information.
Who can take part in our Junior Camps?
The Junior Camp is open to boys and girls aged 8 to 13 and aged 14 to 17. Participants must be physically able to take part in outdoor games and challenges, but no prior experience is needed—just enthusiasm and a sense of adventure!
What activities are included?
Campers take part in:
- Obstacle courses
- Camouflage & concealment workshops
- Bushcraft & shelter building
- Orienteering & navigation games
- Mental and physical team challenges
- Fun leadership and confidence-building missions
All activities are age-appropriate and run by experienced, Garda-vetted instructors, including ex-military professionals.
Each experience is crafted with precision, care, and a deep understanding of what it takes to unlock real potential. From personal challenges to group breakthroughs, you’re in expert hands every step of the way. Find out more about our Team on our About page.
What should my child bring?
Participants should bring:
- A packed lunch and plenty of water
- Weather-appropriate clothing (e.g. raincoat or sunscreen)
- Black leggings/tracksuit and a black long-sleeve top (we provide helmets and vests)
- Spare clothes, towel and a light bag for gear
What time does the camp run?
The camp runs from 10:00am to 2:30pm, Tuesday to Thursday.
Drop-off and collection take place at The Unit Gym, Clara.
Please sign your child in and out each day with our staff.
Is the camp safe?
Yes. We operate under a Child Safeguarding Policy and comply with all relevant legislation. All instructors are Garda vetted and trained first aiders will be present. We adhere to recommended adult-to-child ratios and all activities are risk-assessed and fully supervised.
What if my child has additional needs or medical conditions?
We encourage parents/guardians to let us know of any additional support needs, allergies, or medical concerns when booking. We will do our best to accommodate individual needs. A trained first aider is on-site at all times.
What if my child is nervous or doesn’t want to participate?
That’s okay! Our instructors are trained to support, encourage and never force participation. The goal is to build confidence over the three days. We focus on fun, inclusion, and teamwork – not competition.
Can I stay and watch?
For safety and focus, parents/guardians do not remain on site during the programme. However, you’ll receive photo updates and a graduation ceremony will be held on the final day, which families are welcome to attend.
